Our Mission

Bates Accelerated Learning Academy provides high-quality, research-based educational experiences dedicated to the accelerated growth of all learners. BALA meets students at their individual points of academic, social, and emotional need, establishes a clear baseline for growth, and provides purposeful instruction that moves learners toward confidence, independence, and achievement.
Our Vision
BALA is a trusted, literacy-centered education academy known for academic acceleration, strong teacher practice, family partnership, and a culture of high expectations. Students will be prepared to think critically, communicate clearly, read deeply, and compete academically on a broader scale.

Meet Our Founder

Sheila A. Bates, M.Ed. , ED.S

Sheila Bates brings 23 years of educational experience to BALA, including service in Title I, Renaissance, Achievement, and Turnaround school settings. Her background spans classroom instruction, literacy leadership, intervention planning, data analysis, and instructional coaching.

Ms. Bates holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida (with an ESOL endorsement), a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix, and a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from National Louis University. She also holds a Reading Endorsement and a Literacy Coach endorsement from the State of Florida.

As Founder and Executive Director, Ms. Bates leads BALA's instructional quality, mission, and growth — with a deep belief in high expectations, rigorous instruction, and measurable growth for every learner.
